Maker: Mauser Model: 1895 Caliber/Gauge: 7mm
Serial #C423, 7mm Mauser, 29” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is one of the last batch of 1,000 “OVS” marked rifles that were intercepted and turned back by the British in 1899. They were subsequently returned to DWM and used to fill a Chilean contract where the Chilean crest was added to the receiver. This example is very nice, and retains 95-97% of the original blue, with some silvering along the high edges, and at the muzzle. The bolt latch retains about 40-50% of the original bright fire blue, and the unnumbered bolt has an armory bright finish with some freckling visible on the handle. The stock was renumbered to match, and has numerous minor handling marks, but is otherwise in fine shape with most of the original finish remaining, and crisp Chilean cartouche on the left side. The rifle is accompanied by the original numbered cleaning rod, and is a nearly excellent example of an OVS / Chilean Mauser. It would make a great example for any collection. FFL or C&R
