Maker: Mannlicher Model: 1901 Caliber/Gauge: 9mm
Serial #775, 9mm Para., 11 3/4” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some slight freckling within the grooves. This is a rare carbine, the first design built on the Model 1897 pistol action, and has the early, fully reciprocating receiver/forend assembly. The numbers are matching (with the exception of the removable box magazine), and the metal retains 90-92% of the original blue finish with some silvering present on the high edges and projections. The bolt, cocking lever, and take-down button have an overall bright gray patina with some specks of darker freckling along the edges. The walnut forend and pistol grip buttstock have scattered minor handling marks in the original oil finish, and the stock has a small amount of lateral play with a shim installed. Most of these carbines were manufactured in 7.65mm Mannlicher, and some in that cartridge were even adopted by Mexico for light artillery troops, so a 9mm example is exceedingly rare. The bolt is very stiff to function the action and the extractor looks to be a replacement. We don't suggest firing this weapon before having it checked by a licensed gunsmith. This example is in fine-near excellent condition, and would make a stellar example for any collection. FFL or C&R
