Spanish American War Vet's Hat and Discharge Paper

The discharge of private Timothy O'Hare, a private of Battery G of the 7th Regiment of Artillery. Private O'Hare enlisted for 3 years but was honorably discharged after only 8 months service, most likely due to the war ending. He enlisted July 11, 1898 and was discharged Feb. 28, 1899, at Fort Warren, Massachusetts. O'Hare was born in Lowell, Mass. and was 2'1 11/12" years of age, 5' 5" tall, fair complexioned, blue eyes, with black hair and by occupation a hostler. His military record was previous service, none. Non commissioned officer, never marksmanship none. Battles, engagements, skirmishes, expeditions, none. Served during Spanish-American war at Fort Warren Mass. Wounds received in service, none. Physical condition when discharged, good. Married or single, single. Remarks, service honest and faithful. The gray wool hat was made by Moran of 869 Main St., Hartford, Conn. Emblem on the front is the U.S. eagle under U.S.W.V. (United States War Veteran). Minor moth damage on the top with the leather sweat band loose. The size is 6 7/8". A scarce hat and badge.
