This clamp/vise was used by a saddler or other individual to hold a bridle or harness straps while repairing them. It is made of maple and dates to between 1850 and 1880. The vise is in very nice condition and shows substantial use. As might be expected, it shows scores of circular marks where the punch for billet holes struck the wood.
